Resigns to Go North. — Mr. John Moore, who for many years has been purser on the C. P. N- steamers Charmer and Islander, leaves shortly for the North to assume the management ot" his father's warehouse at Skagway. Mr. Moore's long service on the Vancouver steamers and his popularity as an officer will cause him to be greatly missed by the travelling public.

Resumes Publication.—Mr. McNeill, managing director of the New Westminster Sun, arrived from Seattle yesterday afternoon, where he purchased another newspaper plant. The Sun was one of the sufferers by the recent fire in the Koyal City, and the report that it is defunct is inaccurate. 'It will resume publication on February 1 in a building and on a lot already purchased for the purpose.

An Elocutionary Treat.—At the entertainment which the ladies of the Reformed Episcopal church are arranging to be given in the A..O. U. W. hall on Thursday next, Mrs. T. P. Tomkinson «ill recite two poems. One is " The Pipers at Lucknow," which will enable this talented lady to exhibit tier mastery of Scotch dialect, and the other is Clivo Phillipps-Wolley's "The Sen Queen Wakes." The latter is very timely, for recent orders issued to the fleet at Portsmouth indicate that stirring times may not be far distant. The story of Luck-now is not as familiar to this general inn as it ought to be, and it is pleasant to be al io to announce that one phase of it will be-told to a Victoria audience in so delightful a manner.

Doings of the I. O. 6. F.—At last week's meeting of Columbia Lodge, No. 2, I. O. O. F„ Pro. P. W. Dempster, who lia.1 tor several years filled the position of team captain tendered his resignation, which was reluctantly accepted by the lodge and a vote of thanks given him for his past services. Bro. G. T. box was elected to fill the vacant position, and inaugurated his captaincy by putting all who chose to remain after the lodge bud adjourned through a thorough drill m marching, wheeling, etc. A challenge lias lately been received from Pacific lodge. Vancouver, for a competition in the third degree, to take place in this city on February K, but the time seemed too short for preparation, and the renown of Pacific Lodge's team too great for Columbia lodge to make the nttempt. However, they have suggested that the Vancouver team give their proposed exhibition of the third degree on the date mentioned, while Columbia lodge will put on the initiatory degree in their best style, the two combined promising a good evening's entertainment.
